Prose lesson, A Daughter's Love (Part 1) class 4B

Good morning dear students! 😊😊😀

Hope you are as thrilled as we are, to be part of the teaching-learning at SCS, evolving to a whole new level!

We begin with the first lesson of the English Ferry, A Daughter's Love! Study the pictures shared below to know this beautiful story about the relationship between a father and his daughter.

KING LEAR , A WISE KING  OF ENGLAND, DECIDES TO DIVIDE HIS KINGDOM BETWEEN HIS THREE DAUGHTERS, GONERIL,REGAN AND CORDELIA.

HE PUTS HIS DAUGHTERS THROUGH A TEST, ASKING THEM HOW MUCH THEY LOVE HIM.

GONERIL AND REGAN GIVE THEIR  FATHER FLATTERING  ANSWERS,WHILE CORDELIA IS UNABLE TO MAKE A SHOW OF LOVE. IN A FIT OF ANGER, LEAR BANISHES   HER.( SEND SOMEONE AWAY FROM A COUNTRY) 

LEAR  DISOWNS ( REFUSE TO MAINTAIN A CONNECTION WITH) CORDELIA. 

 SHE  LEAVES WITH THE KING OF FRANCE,  WHOM SHE MARRIES.

LEAR IS ILL-TREATED BY HIS TWO DAUGHTERS, GONERIL AND REGAN. HE FLEES (RUNS AWAY) FROM THEIR HOUSE.

ENGLAND AND FRANCE ARE AT WAR. BEING THE QUEEN OF FRANCE, SHE DECIDES TO ATTACK ENGLAND AND RESCUE HER FATHER. HOWEVER,  THE ENGLISH ARMY  DEFEATS THE FRENCH .

 CORDELIA IS PUT IN PRISON(IMPRISONED).

BOTH FATHER AND DAUGHTER UNITE AND PROMISE TO NEVER LET GO!

At the end of today's lesson, you will be able to:

 *comprehend the lesson well.

            * make inferences about the meaning of a word based on its use in a sentence.

Now, let's take a look at the key- themes explored in the lesson:-

* Lear, King of England, is a wise and generous king.

* He decides to divide his kingdom between his three                daughters.

*However, he puts his daughters through a test, asking each    to tell him how much they love him.

* Goneril and Regan, Lear's older daughters give their father flattering answers. But Cordelia, Lear's youngest and favourite, remains silent , saying that she has no words to describe how  much she loves her father.

* Lear flies into a rage and disowns Cordelia.

* The King Of France who has courted Cordelia, says that         he still wants to marry her even without her land.

* Cordelia leaves Lear and accompanies the King of France.

* Lear soon learns that he made a bad decision. Both his          daughters begin illtreating him.

* Lear flees his daughters' house.

* Meanwhile, England and France are at war with each other.

* The English defeat the French. Cordelia is imprisoned and     is surprised to meet her father there.

* Cordelia and Lear are overjoyed to meet each other after a     long time.

Now that we have a deeper understanding of some of the important facts of the story, we'll be able to appreciate the story better
