The Sentence (Part 2) 9.4.2020

Good morning students! 😊

Hope you are all ready with the following things before starting the lesson:
  • English Grammar book
  • covered English notebook with your name, class and section in the front.
  • write today's topic and date in your INDEX.
  • REMEMBER to write neatly in cursive handwriting.

Few instructions to be kept in mind while going through the blog:

  • The text in RED is to be written as it is in your language notebook.
  • the first page should have the index . Do it neatly. Use a ruler and a sharp pencil.
  •  begin writing the topic and today's date on the next page. ( the way you did work in the previous class)
Let's do a quick recap of what we learnt in the previous blog:

  • sentence is a group of words that makes complete sense.
  • The words in a sentence are placed in their proper order to make complete sense.
  • A sentence always begins with a capital letter.
  • A sentence usually has a full stop (.), question mark (?), exclamation mark (!) at the end.
  • A sentence will always have a verb. The verb is the heart 💓 of a sentence.
Today, we are going to learn more about Punctuation.

Can you imagine speaking and writing without punctuation? 🤔

Punctuation tells us how a sentence should sound. Without it, all of us would be speaking tonelessly like robots!

Let's learn about some of the punctuation marks that we use:

1. QUESTION MARK (?) - ASKING FOR SOMETHING
e.g. - Can I borrow that?
       - What is your name?

2. PERIOD OR FULL STOP (.) - ENDING A SENTENCE
e.g. - Today is Tuesday.
       - The weather is hot.

3. EXCLAMATION MARK (!) - EXPRESSING A STRONG FEELING
e.g. - Wow!
       - I don't like that!
       - Welcome back!

4. COMMA (,) - CONNECTING TWO OR MORE THOUGHTS/THINGS

e.g. I like ice cream, dancing, and reading.

Watch this video below which will help you understand it better.
